YiddishLand

Yiddishland Project

 

This photography project, started by Shendl in 2015, aims to show the beauty and diversity of the world of Yiddish culture around the globe. As part of this roll, she takes photos and conducts interviews with musicians, dancers, actors and directors working in this field. 

 

Starting her project with KlezFest in Lviv, Ukraine, to date Shnedl has photographed for her project in Germany, Israel, Italy, Moldova, Canada and Japan.

Yiddish Summer Weimar

Yiddish Summer Weimar (YSW) began life as a weekend workshop in 1999. Today it spans a whole month and has become one of the world's leading summer programs for the study, creation and presentation of traditional and contemporary Yiddish culture.

Canada

KlezKanada and Ashkenaz 

The Ashkenaz Festival is one of the largest and most prestigious showcases of Jewish music and culture anywhere in the world.  Originally founded as a showcase for Klezmer and Yiddish music and culture, the Ashkenaz Festival has evolved over the years into an eclectic showcase of global Jewish art and culture. 

KlezKanada was founded in 1996 to teach, nurture and present to a broad public the best of Jewish traditional arts and Yiddish culture. Its goal is to foster Jewish cultural and artistic creativity worldwide as both an ethnic heritage and a constantly evolving contemporary culture and identity. 

Japan

Yiddish Autumn Tokyo

Japan-based festival of Jewish Musical Culture „Yiddish Autumn Tokyo“ including concerts and workshops for Japanese musicians, artists, linguists and dancers who have devoted themselves to a deep study of the world of Jewish culture.
